Day 19 without alcohol - my take

Post by sysadm »

I am on my 19th day without alcohol of any kind. I certainly feel much better than I did during the first week but still haven't gotten my sleep patterns ironed out. Also, I'm feeling a great deal more "space out" this time and experience a multitude of aches and pains. Basically, I just feel really old and unable to get motivated to do much. Taking a shower, cleaning the kitchen or bathroom, and doing the laundry are major undertakings.

The last couple of days, I've felt the influence of the little AV telling me that I've proven my cause and that it's okay to have a drink. However, I catch it and remind myself about what I've gone through over the last couple of weeks to get to this point. It's amazing how soon we forget!

Anyway, back to the "sober" grind!

Day 21 - 3 weeks into this, this time! One of the strategies I've employed (it seemed to work with cutting back on smoking), is to have plenty of the evil juice close at hand, which I know is against all advice I've read, but it seems to provide an emotional brace. Anyway, this is, of course, a "work in progress."

On day 27, I had a terrible headache. With 3 tallboys in the fridge, I decided to take a "sip" off one of them. One sip alleviated the headache, but within a hour or two, I'd knocked off all 3 tallboys. I then went to work on the 2 bottles of wine that I'd had put away for my "collection" and when that was done, I proceeded to "the store" and re-stocked the wine, plus purchased a 12-pack of Miller High-Life. In a nutshell, this "slip" lasted 10 days, which seems to be the minimum length of a bender for me, as I start the "weaning process" the day after picking up the first one.

I'm now on day 19 once again, this time with a third of a quart of Miller in the fridge. I haven't been tempted this time though. I pray it stays that way!

Day 33 - in the books! Still feeling somewhat "spacey" but getting better day by day. Had a thorough physical check-up last week with blood tests and all, the results showed normal liver function (Thank God). Blood pressure, cholestrol, and triglycerides were a little high, but that's to be expected for one that's approaching the "big six oh!"
