Concussion - the movie

Finally got to see "Concussion" the other night and thought Will Smith did a superb acting job. It is pretty well known, especially around here, that the Duerson family was not at all pleased with the portrayal of David in the movie. However, the only remotely negative aspect I picked up on was the ...

Day 19 without alcohol - my take

I am on my 19th day without alcohol of any kind. I certainly feel much better than I did during the first week but still haven't gotten my sleep patterns ironed out. Also, I'm feeling a great deal more "space out" this time and experience a multitude of aches and pains. Basically, I just feel really...

Cyrus, My Pioneer Relative

I was recently notified by Family Search (the Mormon genealogy site) that a relative through my maternal Grandmother's paternal side, Cyrus Winget, was among the first pioneers to arrive in Salt Lake City to establish the LDS Church there. He traveled with the Charles C. Rich Company for 103 days, d...

Concussion Movie w/Will Smith - December, 2015

It is great to see more awareness emerging about CTE, maybe the corporation that own's a couple of days a week for almost half a year will be inspired to make changes!

Re: Promoting site forums

Administrating a social site or forum, is a pain in the ass, especially with the recent surge in maliciousness. It seems that the source of much of it is China, Russia and eastern Europe. Everyday, it seems, I have a queue of new registrations to approve, and so far, not one has been legitimate. Per...

Cool Change!

If you are a regular visitor of my site, you may have noticed some changes. I've updated the landing page (The Apex) with a fresh, new, responsive look featuring parallax scrolling. I've also incorporated some links to items for sale, which is an ongoing process. The fountain pens wI have posted lin...

Re: Changes!

Evaluating open source platforms that include forums, wikis, blogs and more. So far, the best I've seen is eXo, but it is a platform as a service (PaaS). In other words, you must buy into it after a trial period. I've also tried elgg and MediaWiki, as well as a few others. So far, it looks like my c...

SXSW 2015

Here it is 2015 and I've missed yet another trip to Austin, however, I would imagine the "warm fuzzies" of potential festival visitors may not be as "warm" as in previous SXSW festivals with all of the negative events from last year.

As for me? Maybe next year.. or the next.. or the.. :?:

Promoting site forums

This topic addresses the issue of restricting 'bots' and attracting traffic from the 'desirables'. Having a site forum has the potential to be a powerful way to open up your site to traffic of the desirable sort, however, the general trend is for a large amount of the undesirable ilk, specifically ...
